המתרגם בהקדמתו מציין כי הביאור שעשה אוטנזוסר הוא "בלשון קל ומובן לכל קורא". כמו כן הוא פונה אל הקהל: "ואתם, בחורי חמד! לכו נא אל באר מים חיים, כרה נדיב העם, במחוקק בידו! שאבו מימי ישועה מבארו, וחיים מדליו!"
המבאר כותב: "כל איש משכיל, נבון דבר, יפלא על המראה, בקראו שתים, שלוש דלתות מאמרי שפר, מליצות הרב הבדרשי נ"ע ... והנה קם רעי היקר... ותרגם את דברי המליץ הנשגב הזה בלשון אשכנזית, צחה וברה, להועיל לקוראי אמרותיו... וגם אני לא טמנתי ידי בצלחת... ולויתי את התרגום האשכנזי בביאור הענינים, ובפירוש הוראת המלות, לפי גדר שרשיהן ומוצאיהן ובעקבות דקדוק ומחקר הלשון דרכתי, לרגל המלאכה, אשר לפני, ולרגל ילדי ישראל, המבקשים חכמה ודעת."
